Doctors Speak Out Online on What Health Reform Bills Lack and Fault AMA Endorsement

Physicians commenting online about the current health reform legislation say it does not address several key causes of healthcare inflation, such as malpractice pay-outs, billing procedures and emphasis on preventive medicine, according to Sermo, a Web site exclusively for physicians that claims 110,000 participants.

Sermo also reported that 95 percent of nearly 11,000 physicians polled on its site said the AMA did not speak for them when the organization recently endorsed the U.S. House’s health reform bill that, among other things, calls for a controversial government-run health plan.

Sermo said its Web platform helps physicians aggregate observations from their daily practice and, through their large numbers, rapidly challenge or corroborate each other’s opinions.
