Researchers examined 107 male high school football athletes who completed computerized neurocognitive testing within 2.4 days of experiencing a concussion. The athletes were followed until a neuropsychologist clears them to return to play.
The researchers found that experiencing dizziness at the time of injury was associated with a 6.34 odds ratio of protracted recovery. Other on-field symptoms of concussions were not associated with protracted recovery, according to the report.
