The computer was stolen from a physician’s locked office and contained software that would detect whether it had been connected to the Internet, and if so, its location, according to the report. No detection has occurred to date.
The computer contained care- or research-related information, such as patient names, location of service and medical record numbers. Some of the information included treatment history, birth date and/or Social Security numbers. According to the release, there is currently no evidence that the information has been accessed. However, the medical center is notifying patients of the breach by mail.
