CMS Proposes Raising Medicare Advantage Payments Next Year

CMS is proposing to raise payments Medicare Advantage payments insurers by 1.38 percent next year, according to a CMS release.

Analysts had been predicting a cut in payments for Medicare Advantage plans, which are seen as lucrative for insurers, according to a report by Bloomberg News.

President Obama’s new health reform proposal, noting that Medicare Advantage pays 14 percent more than payments for traditional Medicare coverage, would phase in a new rate-setting mechanism but it is unclear how this would affect payments.
