Christopher P. Ames, MD (University of California San Francisco Medical Center). Dr. Ames is director of spinal tumor and spinal deformity surgery at UCSF Medical Center. He also serves as co-director of the Neurospinal Disorders Program and the UCSF SpineCenter. He has a special interest in spinal reconstructive surgery for patients with tumors, trauma and degenerative diseases. The Neurosurgical Spinal Deformity Service that Dr. Ames directs treats more than 200 patients per year.
In 2005, Dr. Ames won the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine research award for his work in spinal fusion in tumor reconstructions requiring radiation therapy. He also served as principal investigator in five randomized prospective clinical trials evaluating spinal reconstruction in tumor surgeries and deformity correction. He also publishes extensively on spinal biomechanics and resorbable polymer use for spinal reconstruction.
Dr. Ames earned his medical degree at UCLA School of Medicine and completed his residency at the UCSD Medical Center. His additional training includes a fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute.
