Chicago Orthopedic Surgeon About to be Shot Into Space Aboard Shuttle Atlantis

Robert Satcher Jr., MD, will be one of six astronauts to journey to the international space station aboard the space shuttle Atlantis on Monday, according to report by the Chicago Sun-Times.

On the 11-day mission, he will conduct experiments on the effects of outer space on the immune system.

Dr. Satcher, the nephew of David Satcher, MD, the former U.S. surgeon general, specializes in bone cancer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Children’s Memorial Hospital.
