Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy Receives Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification

The Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy hospital has become the first hospital in the Carolina’s HealthCare System to earn certification for both total hip and total knee replacement, according to a hospital news release.

The hospital received certification for these procedures from the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. John Masonis, MD, a specialist at OrthoCarolina, sponsored the accreditation effort. In 2009, the hospital physicians performed 628 successful total knee replacements and 425 successful total hip replacements.
