Bringing the scalpel to the octagon — Hospital for Special Surgery first UFC-affiliated hospital

Ultimate Fighting Championship selected New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery to serve as the mixed martial arts organization’s first-ever affiliated hospital.

Here’s what you should know.

 

1. UFC and HSS entered into a multiyear partnership. UFC fighters can now access the hospital’s sports medicine physicians. They will serve as orthopedic consultants to the brand’s medical team.

 

2. HSS’ Chief of Sports Medicine Service Brian Kelly, MD, will be serve as UFC’s head consulting orthopedic surgeon. He will lead several surgeons who will staff UFC events.

 

3. As part of the partnership, HSS will assist UFC in physical therapist recruitment.

 

4. HSS has an onsite sports rehabilitation center at the UFC Performance Institute.
