Biomet Announces 8% Increase in Net Sales for FY2010 Q2

Warsaw, Ind.-based Biomet reported that net sales increased 8 percent during the second fiscal quarter ended Nov. 30, 2009, to $695.6 million from $642.8 million during the second quarter of fiscal year 2009, according to a Biomet news release.

On a constant currency basis, net sales increased 5 percent during the second quarter of FY 2010. U.S. sales increased 8 percent during the quarter to $408.2 million and, excluding dental and the effect of foreign currency, net sales increased 7 percent worldwide and 9 percent in the United States, according to the release.

Reported operating income totaled $94.1 million during the second quarter of FY 2010 compared to $80.0 million for the second quarter of FY 2009.

Biomet recorded a net loss of $7.2 million, on a reported basis, during the second quarter of FY 2010 compared to a reported net loss of $39.7 million for the second quarter of FY 2009, according to the release. Excluding special items, adjusted net income totaled $74.8 million during the second quarter of FY 2010 compared to adjusted net income of $34.0 million for the same period in the prior fiscal year.
