athenahealth Given Highest Score for Usability, Report Says

Healthcare providers graded athenahealth highest in terms usability, giving it an overall score of 4.2 on a scale of 1 to 5, according the “Ambulatory EMR Usability 2013,” released by KLAS.

Researchers interviewed 163 healthcare providers for the report.

Here are nine vendors’ overall scores for efficient and effective usability of their electronic medical record systems, according to the report. On a scale of 1 to 5:

1. athenahealth — 4.2
2. Epic — 4
3. GE Healthcare CPS — 3.9
4. Greenway — 3.9
5. NextGen — 3.8
6. Allscripts Enterprise — 3.7
7. Cerner — 3.7
8. eclinical Works — 3.6
9. McKesson Practice Partner — 3.3

While athenahealth earned the highest overall score for usability, 85 percent of providers reported that Epic was the most effective vendor at guiding them in terms of implementing and using the EMR.
