CMS is expected to publish a determination on national coverage policy on mild for Medicare contractors on January 1, 2014. In the letter from ASIPP, President Frank Falco, MD, outlined studies with favorable results for the mild procedure and supporting its use.
“With over 14,000 procedures performed in the US, mild has become a critical tool in the treatment algorithm for symptomatic LSS,” states the letter. It continues to say, “The mild procedure also reduces healthcare costs, and thereby provides an exceptionally important medical advance for the large number of patients suffering form chronic and debilitating back pain that severely impacts their quality of life.”
