Arkansas Orthopedic Surgeon Sentenced to 10 Months in Prison for Fraud

Robert J. Tomlinson, MD, a Fayetteville, Ark.-based orthopedic surgeon has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for healthcare fraud, according to an Arkansas News report.

Dr. Tomlinson pleaded guilty in April to billing insurance programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, for procedures he did not perform. According to prosecutors, Dr. Tomlinson performed actual surgeries on the patients, but billed payors for additional procedures that did not occur.

In addition to his prison sentencing, he was also ordered to pay $66,497 in restitution.
