Ankle Replacement Surgery Completed at Florida’s Indian River Medical Center

Florida’s Indian River Medical Center successfully completed the first ankle replacement surgery performed at the facility on an 85-year-old patient, according to a TC Palm report.

Allison Wade, MD, a physician practicing with Vero Orthopedics and on staff at River Medical Center, replaced the bones in the patient’s ankle with a metal joint during the six-hour surgery. In addition to the ankle replacement, the patient had her heel realigned. Less than a week after the surgery, the patient was able to go out dancing without a brace.

Dr. Wade was trained in ankle replacement at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of Pennsylvania State University in Hershey.
