American Society for Surgery of the Hand Grants Dr. John Elfar 2013 Surgeon-Scientist Award

The American Society for Surgery of the Hand has awarded John C. Elfar, MD, an assistant professor in the orthopedics and rehabilitation department of the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center its 2013 Hand Surgeon-Scientist Award.

The award grants Dr. Elfar a five-year, $187,500 grant for his research laboratory. Dr. Elfar’s lab is a part of the URMC Center for Musculoskeletal Research. His work focuses on the role red cell production plays in peripheral nerve injury.

Dr. Elfar focuses on treatment of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder.
