Alliance of Specialty Medicine Seeks Further Changes to CMS’ E-Prescribing Program

The Alliance of Specialty Medicine recently urged CMS to finalize the proposed rules to CMS’ e-prescribing program, but it also asked the agency to look into further changes, such as easing the burden of physician participation and limiting those who will be exposed to the 2012 payment adjustment, according to a letter from the group issued to CMS.

According to the letter, the Alliance said it appreciated the new exemption categories that would prevent specialty physicians from being penalized for not meeting reporting criteria under certain circumstances. However, it also suggested that CMS revise the 2012 penalty criteria and give specialty physicians more time to pursue and integrate the proper health information technology to meet the quality e-prescribing goals.
