After Federal Probe, Orthopedic Group Will Provide Interpreters for Deaf Patients

The Mid-Maryland Musculoskeletal Institute, an 11-physician practice in Frederick, Md., has agreed to supply sign language interpreters whenever needed, following an investigation by the HHS Department’s Office for Civil Rights, according to a release from HHS.

The investigation was in response to three complaints alleging that the practice failed to provide interpreter services for deaf patients, in violation of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The practice signed a so-called Voluntary Resolution Agreement with HHS.
