Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute in Freehold, N.J., podiatric surgeon Gerald Mauriello, MD, now offers treatment for ankle arthritis using the Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacement system, according to a practice news release.

The STAR Ankle was approved by the FDA last year as an alternative to fusion for patients with post traumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. The system is designed to optimize ankle movement and function by creating a new surface that replaces the arthritic ankle joint.
