AAOS: Treat Lesser Toe Deformities Early

Since lesser toe deformities are treatable and can be symptoms of other conditions, early assessment and treatment by orthopedic surgeons is important, according to a literature review published in Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

There are several issues that lead to lesser toe deformities, including improper footwear, inflammatory arthritis, injury and neuromuscular and metabolic diseases. The lesser toe deformities are often treated non-surgically, but surgical intervention is a possibility when the patient doesn’t respond to more conservative treatment.
