AAOS Receives National Volunteer Award

The U.S. Department of the Interior presented the National Volunteer Award for a Non-Profit Organization to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons this past week during its 2011 Take Pride in America Awards ceremony at the White House, according to an AAOS news release.

AAOS received the award for its one-day playground build in San Diego on Feb. 15, 2011. The project’s goal was to provide a safe place for children and families, with or without disabilities, to play.

There were 600 orthopedic surgeons, medical professionals, donors and others who participated in the project.
