Dr. Levine was director of the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute for Sinai Hospital and Northwest Hospital Center at the time of his death. During his career, he served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the AAOS, president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and board member of the Cervical Spine Research Society. He also designed Scoli-Bear, a stuffed bear designed to help explain scoliosis surgery to children.

The goal of the Alan M. Levine, MD, Education Fund is to provide multiple residents with opportunities to attend the AAOS Course for Orthopaedic Educations and other continuing medical education and surgical skills courses. Additionally, 5 percent of each year’s fund will be dedicated to resident scholarships. AAOS would like to raise $150,000 by the end of this year for the fund.
