AAOS: Advise Patients Not to Drive After Foot or Ankle Surgery

Patients recovering from foot injuries or surgeries should refrain from driving until the injury is healed for safety reasons, according to an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons news release.

A study recently published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery found that it takes much longer to brake when the driver is wearing an immobilization device such as a splint or brace. Orthopedic surgeons should educate their patients about these safety concerns.
