Here are four things to know:
1. Study authors distributed a 24-item survey to patients at three pediatric and adult hospitals between January and May 2015. Of the 1,438 respondents, 1,117 — 78 percent — reported receiving information about their upcoming imaging examination.
2. For those that did receive information, ordering providers were the predominant and preferred source of examination-related information.
3. Respondents placed the greatest importance on examination preparation before the exam and the least on whether an alternative radiation-free examination would suffice.
4. Respondents in pediatric hospitals, typically parents, placed an even greater value on pre-examination information.
