50 Hospitals With the Highest Number of ER Visits

Here are the 50 hospitals in America with the most emergency room visits for both admitted patients and not admitted patients. Figures are from the American Hospital Directory, which calculates total ER patient volume estimates using Medicare claims “total days” and “medicare days” figures hospitals provided in their most recent CMS cost reports. Figures are rounded to the nearest hundred.

Editor’s note: Some hospitals file a combined or consolidated CMS cost report that includes information for other facilities on their campus or affiliated hospitals. In those cases, facilities included in the “total ER visits” figure are specified in italicized notes.

UPDATE: Hospitals that have contacted Becker’s Hospital Review with actual ER patient volumes are denoted by an asterisk. These entries have the actual ER patient volume number alongside AHD’s estimate in parentheses. Hospitals wishing to provide actual ER patient volumes may email writer/reporter Ellie Rizzo at erizzo@beckershospitalreview.com.
