1. Shifting employees around. Instead of implementing large layoffs, Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital has been shifting employees around to where they are needed. This involves cross-training employees to perform several jobs. Employees can then be easily moved from pre-op to post-op or from recovery to pre-op without reducing quality of care.
2. Expanded charity care. The hospital has minimized obstructions for patients in need. OrthoIndy physician have also done volunteer work in New Orleans and Haiti.
3. Reducing recovery times. In these depressed times, “people desperately need to keep their jobs,” Dr. Dietz says. Thanks to advanced surgical techniques, “we can get them fixed as quickly as possible and put them back in commission so that they don’t lose their job.”
