Several orthopedic surgeons are already participating in Operation Walk International to provide volunteer orthopedic care to underserved populations around the globe, and these surgeons came together to organize similar events in their native country. According to the report, surgeons will be working with the “working poor”–people who don’t qualify for government assistance but are unable to afford orthopedic surgery on their own.
The event will take place on Dec. 2 and 3, when more than 25 orthopedic surgeons from 15 states will perform pro bono total joint replacement surgeries on underserved patient populations. Some of the surgeons will perform these procedures at their home hospitals.
