Low reimbursements, a higher work load and the potential for lower quality of care has discouraged some surgeons from participating. There were 24 percent of orthopedic surgeons who reported they won’t take health insurance exchange plans, slightly more than the 22 percent who said they would.
At the time of the survey, 54 percent of orthopedists reported being unsure about whether they would participate, which is about the same percentage as that reported by all physicians.
