20 States With the Most & Least Physicians

Nationally in 2012, there were 260.5 active physicians per 100,000 people, according to new data released by the Association of American Medical Colleges in its 2013 State Physician Workforce Data Book.

The distribution of those physicians varied widely state-to-state last year, however. The following are the top 10 states with the most active physicians and the bottom 10 states with the fewest active physicians, per 100,000 people.
