Here are five insights:

1. The trial is comparing the Intracept Procedure, a minimally invasive treatment for chronic low back pain, to conservative care.

2. The INTRACEPT study will eventually enroll up to 150 patients across 20 U.S. centers. The study builds off of the company’s previous trail, the Surgical Multi-Center Assessment of RF Ablation for the Treatment of Vertebrogenic Back Pain.

3. Researchers pinpointed the primary efficacy endpoint as the mean change from baseline at three-months postoperation via the Oswestry Disability Index.

4. Steven R. Garfin, MD, orthopedic surgery department chairman at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center, will serve as principal investigator.

5. Dr. Garfin was a previous North American Spine Society president. He has helped design and assess techniques and instruments for spinal disorder treatments.
