100-Year-Old Woman Undergoes Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Helen Daniels, a 100-year-old patient in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was recently treated with balloon kyphoplasty, a minimally-invasive spinal procedure, to relieve back pain from two spinal fractures caused by osteoporosis, according to a release from Medtronic.

The balloon kyphoplasty was performed by Kenneth Hansraj, an orthopedic spine specialist with New York Spine Surgery & Rehabilitation Medicine in Poughkeepsie.

An executive at Medtronic’s Kyphon products division said Mrs. Daniels’ positive outcome showed the benefits of balloon kyphoplasty.
