Former orthopedic spine surgeon and founder of Titan Spine, Peter Ullrich, MD, won an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2019 Midwest Award, reports Milwaukee Business News.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Ullrich founded Titan Spine in 2006, developing titanium spinal implants with a grooved surface for quicker recovery times.

2. Ernst & Young recognized the decrease in need for opioids among patients with Titan Spine implants and how Dr. Ullrich's designs have impeded the plastic-focused spinal implant industry.

3. Dr. Ullrich is also in the running for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year National Awards in November.

Editorial note: Becker’s Healthcare CEO Jessica Cole also earned a 2019 Entrepreneur of the Year Midwest Award from Ernst & Young.
