Dr. Douglas Lucas performs ankle surgery with 3D-printed implant: 3 things to know

Douglas Lucas, DO, performed talus replacement surgery with an Additive Orthopaedics' 3D-printed implant at Durango, Colo.-based Mercy Regional Medical Center, the Durango Herald reports.

Here are three things to know.

1. Dr. Lucas is an orthopedic surgeon at Mercy Orthopedic Associates in Durango. He specializes in foot and ankle disorders.

2. Dr. Lucas implanted the 3D-printed, cobalt-chrome implant in a patient with avascular necrosis of the talus.

3. According to Dr. Lucas, Mercy is the third U.S. location where the procedure has been performed.
