Two high-profile surgeries performed by Neal ElAttrache, MD, and four more sports medicine updates from the past month:

1. The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine named Kurt Spindler, MD, president and Nathan Skelley, MD, was selected to serve on its council of delegates.

2. Dr. ElAttrache operated on Atlanta Hawks center Onyeka Okongwu and UFC lightweight Conor McGregor.

3. A nine-person medical advisory panel formed by USA Football will focus on advancing safety in youth football.

4. Keith Heier, MD, completed ankle surgery to repair a high ankle sprain on FC Dallas winger Beni Redžić.

5. Several orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists went to the Olympics as part of the U.S. Coalition for the Prevention of Illness and Injury in Sport.
