Dr. James Andrews visit to Sports Hall of Fame postponed indefinitely

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum postponed a scheduled appearance by leading orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, MD, WTOK-TV reports.

What you should know:

1. Dr. Andrews was scheduled to speak about treatment for young athletes. He and the museum decided to postpone the appearance indefinitely because of attendance uncertainty amid the coronavirus outbreak.

2. Dr. Andrews founded Birmingham, Ala.-based Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Clinic, where he practiced for years until he opened Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Fla., in 2007. He later opened Children's Health Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Plano, Texas, in 2017.

3. Dr. Andrews graduated from Baton Rouge-based Louisiana State University, earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans, and completed fellowships at Charlottesville-based University of Virginia and at the University of Lyon in France.

4. Dr. Andrews was one of 14 business leaders recognized by the Horatio Alger Association in December 2019 for encouraging others to pursue higher education.
