Riley Williams III, MD, performed arthroscopic surgery on Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving March 3, the team reported.

What you should know:

1. Mr. Irving suffered a right shoulder impingement that ended his season. He played in 20 games for the Nets.

2. Team officials expect Mr. Irving will make a full recovery for the 2021 season.

3. Dr. Williams is an orthopedic surgeon at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, where he also performed the procedure.

4. He serves as the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Red Bulls medical director and head team orthopedic surgeon. He has also worked with the New York Mets and the New York Giants.
