Drs. Bert Mandelbaum, Clint Soppe perform surgery on LA Galaxy midfielder Romain Alessandrini

Bert Mandelbaum, MD, and Clint Soppe, MD, performed a knee surgery on LA Galaxy midfielder Romain Alessandrini, the team reports.

What you should know:

1. Mr. Alessandrini will be out until September as he recovers.

2. Drs. Mandelbaum and Soppe performed the procedure at Santa Monica, Calif.-based Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute, where they are both orthopedic surgeons.

3. Dr. Mandelbaum is the director of the FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence in Santa Monica, the assistant medical director of MLS and a member of both USA Gymnastics' and FIFA's medical boards.

4. Dr. Soppe is an orthopedic consultant for the LA Galaxy and for Malibu, Calif.-based Pepperdine University's athletics.
