The Oakland Athletics' will be without first baseman Matt Olson for a period of time, after Steve Shin, MD, performed surgery on his right hand, MLB.com reports.

What you should know:

1. Mr. Olson injured his hand March 21 during a game in Japan.

2. He will be out as he recuperates.

3. Dr. Shin is the hand surgery director at the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles.

4. He is a Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks consultant.
