Dr. Leigh Ann Curl judges NFL's '1st & Future' health, safety event: 5 details

Orthopedic surgeon Leigh Ann Curl, MD, served as one of five judges of the NFL's fourth annual "1st and Future" event Feb. 2 at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, NFL reports.

Five details:

1. The 1st and Future event aims to improve player health and safety. During the event, five companies compete by pitching products designed to enhance player safety.

2. The head orthopedic surgeon for the Baltimore Ravens, Dr. Curl is also president of the NFL Physicians Society.

3. Dr. Curl serves as chief of orthopedics at MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore.

4. With expertise in sports medicine, Dr. Curl's additional specialties include injuries and conditions of the Achilles tendon and anterior cruciate ligament.

5. TopSpin Technologies received first place in the competition for its neck muscle strengthening helmet device, while Solius took home second place for its nano-spectrum light technology for hormone stimulation.
