California high school district names new sports medicine clinic after Dr. Charles Camarata: 5 details

Chula Vista, Calif.-based Sweetwater Union High School District opened the Dr. Charles Camarata Sports Medicine and Wellness Center, which is named after sports medicine physician and CEO and Founder of Chula Vista-based Southwest Sports Wellness Foundation Charles Camarata, MD, according to Sweetwater Currents.

Here are five details:

1. The new sports medicine center, which is the first of its kind in San Diego county, will provide services to the school district's more than 15,000 student athletes.

2. Sweetwater District's partners on the project include Southwest Sports Wellness Foundation, UC San Diego, San Diego State University and Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista.

3. In addition to providing financial support, Dr. Camarata has organized a free Saturday morning injury clinic for student athletes in the Sweetwater District for more than 25 years.

4. In 2011, Dr. Camarata established the school district's Sports Medicine Career Technical Education courses in 11 high schools.

5. In addition to his sports medicine practice, Dr. Camarata also serves as a volunteer sports medicine instructor at UC San Diego Medical School.
