Dr. Neal ElAttrache performs shoulder 'clean up' procedure on Cardinals Marcell Ozuna

Neal ElAttrache, MD, performed a scope of St. Louis Cardinals left-fielder Marcell Ozuna's right shoulder Oct. 30, MLB reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. In August, Dr. ElAttrache examined Mr. Ozuna and injected cortisone for temporary shoulder pain relief.

2. The Cardinals and Mr. Ozuna entered the offseason in late September with the expectation Mr. Ozuna would not need surgery for his shoulder pain.

3. At the Cardinals season-wrap press conference Oct. 16, the team's President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said Mr. Ozuna would follow up with Dr. ElAttrache in late October, during which Mr. Ozuna's recovery plans may change.

4. Mr. Ozuna experienced shoulder inflammation throughout the entirety of the 2018 season, according to MLB.

5. Dr. ElAttrache is an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. He is the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation board chairman and program director for the Kerlan-Jobe fellowship. He is president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

6. Dr. ElAttrache is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams. He is also an orthopedic consultant to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and PGA Tour.
