Dr. Neal ElAttrache performs season-ending surgery on Giants' pitcher Johnny Cueto: 5 highlights

Although James Andrews, MD, recommended a treatment to allow San Francisco Giants pitcher Johnny Cueto to avoid surgery, he ultimately underwent a season-ending procedure, according to Mercury News.

Here are five highlights:

1. Neal ElAttrache, MD, performed Tommy John surgery at Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Institute.

2. Mr. Cuerto is expected to miss the rest of the 2018 season and a majority of the 2019 season.

3. Dr. ElAttrache is an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. He is the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation board chairman and program director for the Kerlan-Jobe fellowship. He is the president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

4. Dr. ElAttrache is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams. He is also an orthopedic consultant to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and the PGA Tour.

5. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatments.
