After injuring his left thumb diving to make a catch, Arizona Diamondbacks' outfielder AJ Pollock will be examined by Dr. Don Sheridan, MLB.com reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. A team physician originally diagnosed Mr. Pollock with a left thumb sprain.

2. The team is sending Mr. Pollock to Dr. Sheridan for a second opinion.

3. Dr. Sheridan practices in Scottsdale, Ariz., and is the Diamondbacks' orthopedic hand specialist.

4. Dr. Sheridan earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson and completed his residency and fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
