Dr. Robert Anderson performs arthroscopic surgery on ankle of Nationals' Adam Eaton — 4 insights

After undergoing three examinations with three physicians, Robert Anderson, MD, performed an arthroscopic surgery on the left ankle of Washington Nationals' outfielder Adam Eaton to diagnose and treat an issue, the Washington Post reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Mr. Eaton had lingering leg pain after sliding into a base in early May. He underwent two MRIs and a bone scan, failing to find the cause of the pain.

2. Dr. Anderson performed an exploratory arthroscopic surgery. He discovered a chondral flap in Mr. Eaton's ankle was irritating his ankle canal when he moved.

3. Mr. Eaton has no established timetable to return, but is expected to play in the 2018 season.

4. Dr. Anderson is a foot specialist at Bellin Health in Green Bay, Wis. He is a past president of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.
