Steven Shin, MD, orthopedic surgeon and director of hand surgery at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles successfully performed surgery on Josh Hart of the Los Angeles Lakers. Dr. Shin repaired Mr. Hart's fractured fourth metacarpal on his left hand.
Here are three things to know.
1. Mr. Hart sustained the fracture Feb. 28 at a practice in Miami. He is expected to miss four weeks to six weeks.
2. Dr. Shin received his undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees from Brown University in Providence, R.I. He completed his combined hand and upper limb fellowship at Stanford (Calif.) University.
3. Dr. Shin is an assistant professor of orthopedics at Cedars-Sinai and is on the faculty of the Kerlan-Jobe Sports Medicine Fellowship. He is an associate editor for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, a former contributing editor for the Yearbook of Hand and Upper Limb Surgery and a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery. He is actively involved in research, has published in several scientific journals and regularly speaks on hand and wrist conditions.
