Former USA Gymnastics physician Larry Nassar sentenced to another 40-125 years in prison: 4 things to know

Michigan Judge Janice Cunningham sentenced former USA Gymnastics physician Larry Nassar to another 40 to 125 years in prison, NBC News reports. Barring appeals, this marks the end of the criminal cases against Mr. Nassar.

Here are four things to know:

1. Mr. Nassar molested 265 girls and women over two decades in the guise of medical treatment. He delivered an apology in Eaton County Court, stating that the victim impact statements he heard over nine days of hearings "impacted me to my innermost core."

2. Judge Cunningham revealed that days before, in a jailhouse pre-sentencing interview, Mr. Nassar claimed that his admission during plea hearings that his bare-handed invasive pelvic procedures had no legitimate purpose was incorrect.

"I am not convinced that you truly understand that what you did was wrong and the devastating impact that you have had on the victims, families and friends," Judge Cunningham said. "Clearly you are in denial, you don't get it, and I do not believe there is a likelihood you could be reformed."

3. Judge Cunningham said that at the outset she planned on following the plea agreements Mr. Nassar made last year. Mr. Nassar was previously sentenced to 40 to 175 years in Ingham County for molesting seven girls and to 60 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.

4. Victims say they reported Nassar as far back as 1997 and were dismissed. In court on Monday, Mr. Nassar did not explicitly say he had done anything wrong.
