Dr. Neal ElAttrache performs Tommy John surgery on Arizona Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: 5 observations

Neal ElAttrache, MD, of Los Angeles-based Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic performed Tommy John surgery on Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Shelby Miller.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Dr. ElAttrache performed the surgery on Wed., May 10 in Los Angeles.

 

2. Mr. Miller tore his ulnar collateral ligament on April 23.

 

3. Mr. Miller sought Dr. ElAttrache's second opinion soon after the injury occurred.

 

4. The pitcher then sought the third opinion of James Andrews, MD, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.

 

5. Mr. Miller is expected to miss the next 12 to 15 months, according to the team's update.
