Gold medal-winning Olympian opens sports medicine facility — 4 insights

Former Olympian speed skater Eric Heiden, MD, opened The Heiden Institute of Sports Science and Human Performance in Park City, Utah. 

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Dr. Heiden teamed up with cardiothoracic surgeon Russ Reiss, MD, to open the facility.

 

2. The surgeons' practice combines sports science and human performance with sports medicine treatments.

 

3. Orthopedic surgery, sports cardiology and regenerative medicine are offered at the practice.

 

4. Dr. Heiden was a five-time Olympic gold medalist speed skater prior to practicing medicine.

 

Dr. Heiden said, "The Heiden Institute is something I've thought of for years… I've understood the components for a successful athletic career are quite diverse and have always dreamed about bringing those components together under one roof in a comprehensive way."
