How Heartland Orthopedic Specialists improved concussion care: 4 insights

Alexandria, Minn.-based Heartland Orthopedic Specialists participated in a two-day concussion evaluation and management workshop.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Concussion specialist Jon Almquist of Vienna, Va.-based Fairfax Family Practice Comprehensive Concussion Center led the training.

 

2. The following topics were covered at the workshop:

 

  • Concussion interview and assessment
  • Sideline assessment
  • Vestibular and ocular motor screening assessment
  • Role of medical in concussion medication
  • Administration and interpretation of the ImPACT concussion software

 

3. Sports medicine staffs at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists and Alexandria, Minn.-based Douglas County Hospital Rehabilitation Services are now better prepared to treat and care for concussed individuals.

 

4. Mr. Almquist was previously the athletic training administrator at Fairfax County Public Schools for over 30 years.
