Dr. Pat Connor operates on Carolina Panthers' Cam Newton — 4 takeaways

Pat Connor, MD, of Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina performed shoulder surgery on quarterback Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers.

Here are four things to know:

 

1. Dr. Connor repaired Mr. Newton's partially torn rotator cuff.

 

2. After resting over the weekend, Mr. Newton is expected to begin his rehab program on Monday, Apr. 3.

 

3. Mr. Newton will begin an early throwing program 12 weeks after surgery and will rejoin the team 16 weeks after surgery. He is expected to return in time for training camp.

 

4. The quarterback injured his throwing shoulder during a Week 14 game last season but finished the game and the remaining three games left in the season.
