After a follow-up MRI revealed the extent of 76ers player Joel Embiid's meniscus tear, chief team medical director, Jonathan Glashow, MD, and the team announced the center would miss the rest of the season, according to ESPN.

1. Mr. Embiid hasn't played in a month due to swelling and soreness in his knee. Despite finding out about the torn meniscus in January, the 76ers believed Mr. Embiid would return this season.

2. Today's follow-up MRI revealed "a more pronounced" meniscus tear in Mr. Embiid's left knee than was initially seen.

2. Dr. Glashow said, "The assessment of Monday's follow-up MRI of Joel Embiid's left knee appears to reveal that the area affected by the bone bruise has improved significantly, while the previously identified meniscus tear appears more pronounced in this most recent scan."

3. Today's announcement is the latest mishap for the injury-plagued 76ers, who earlier this week announced 2016 first overall pick, Ben Simmons would miss his entire first season due to a Jones fracture, according to Yahoo Sports. Mr. Embiid was drafted in 2014 but was immediately plagued by foot injuries and missed his first two seasons.

4. Just last week, Mr. Embiid expressed concern about the 76ers' communication in saying, "I was told (initially)… that I was going to miss at least two or three weeks so I wasn't happy with the way it was handled (as far as telling the public he was day-to-day)."
