University Orthopedics hires Drs. Matthew Smith, George Pasquarello, and David Bica — 6 observations

Rhode Island-based University Orthopaedics has added non-operative physician specialists Matthew Smith, MD, George Pasquarello, DO, and David Bica, DO, to its practice's team.

Here are six things to know:


1. The three physicians come from Rhode Island-based East Greenwich Spine & Sport.


2. Edward Akelman, MD, president of University Orthopedics said: "We are thrilled to have Drs. Smith, Pasquarello and Bica join our team on March 1st at University Orthopedics. The addition of their skill sets in pain management and musculoskeletal care reinforces our commitment to quality care for our patients,"


3. Dr. Smith will serve as director of system integration. He treats patients with cervical, thoracic and lumbar epidural spinal steroid injections, facet injections, medial branch blocks and radiofrequency ablation, sacroiliac joint injections and radiofrequency ablation.


4. Dr. Pasquarello offers osteopathic manipulative treatment for acute and chronic neuromusculoskeletal injuries caused by work, sports, trauma and repetitive motion.


5. Dr. Bica performs osteopathic manipulative medicine in treating neck and lower back pain, fluoroscopic spinal injections and both diagnostic and interventional muscoskeletal ultrasounds.


6. University Orthopedics was founded in 1990 and is a leading center for orthopedic care, research, and rehabilitation in Southern New England. The center has treated patients suffering from muscoskeletal and nervous system-related issues since 2003.
